Bloodline’s Ben Mendelsohn = Best Actor Ever 2

Ben Mendelsohn in BloodlineThe new Netflix original series Bloodline is so well written and cast, it’s a delight to watch. The family drama is set in Islamorada, and features a star-studded cast including Kyle Chandler, Sissy Spacek, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, Norbert Leo Butz, Chloë Sevigny, Enrique Murciano, and Sam Shepard. The acting is so good in Bloodline that my eyes started to burn halfway through the series. Ben Mendelsohn’s performance in the Netflix original series Bloodline is particularly entertaining.

I first witnessed the magnificence of Ben Mendelsohn in David Michôd’s film Animal Kingdom. Holy shit, Animal Kingdom. The trailer alone got my blood pumping with anticipation and excitement. A phenomenal film, with Mendelhson playing the dark and brooding Andrew “Pope” Cody.

“Whoa, this guy is a phenomenal actor. I love this character” I said to my girlfriend.

Mendehlson was a delight to watch as the unpredictable and explosive Pope. His character reminded me of a dog you would be apprehensive and afraid to approach, not knowing if the dog was going to rip your throat out or kneel at your feet and nuzzle your leg.

Next up was Derek Cianfrance’s 2012 film A Place Beyond the Pines. “Fuck yeah! It’s Mendelsohn. This guy is great,” I whispered to my girlfriend in the theater as Ben and Ryan Gosling planned and plotted bank robberies on screen.

Then came the Dark Knight Rises.

“Holy shit its Mendelsohn! Bane just killed Mendelsohn!”

I was good and primed for Mendelsohn’s badassary when the Bloodline previews started to make rounds. “A show starring Mendelsohn set in the Florida Keys? I cannot WAIT to see this show.”

“Hey can you shut the hell up about Mendelsohn already?” my girlfriend complained.

To summarize:
Mendelsohn, Mendelsohn, Mendelsohn.

“Bloodline” is a dramatic thriller that explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a contemporary American family. The Rayburns are hard-working pillars of their Florida Keys community. But when the black sheep son comes home for the 45th anniversary of his parents’ hotel, he threatens to expose the Rayburns’ dark secrets and shameful past, pushing his siblings to the limits of family loyalty.
