A local shop recently asked me if I would be willing to conduct two week long underwater photography academy courses for them in 2015! I am very excited about this opportunity. The courses are for any level of photographer, from the beginner to the more advanced. The only prerequisite is that you are a certified diver. We will be diving in Key Largo and will focus primarily on diving skills related to taking underwater photos, composition, technical aspects, lighting, understanding the underwater critters and their behavior, and post processing. We will also add in some macro work for those that are interested.

Course Description:

Digital Photography is the new universal norm for photography worldwide including underwater photography. A high quality digital underwater photo has endless ways of being artfully manipulated to become anything from a pleasant vacation memory to an award winning image. This course is designed for everyone. Whether you are a digital underwater newbie with a point and shoot camera to a Digital SLR experienced old hat you will gain valuable experience and practice as we progress from beginner to intermediate to advanced underwater photo technique.

The course starts out introducing and reinforcing the basics of digital underwater photography and progresses to more advanced composition, techniques, skills, and editing. From there we progress far beyond the basics into DSLR to grow and nurture your underwater photography skills. The fish, corals, and wrecks of the world famous underwater parks and sanctuaries of Key Largo, Florida are your willing subject matter during the course. Our summer water temperatures are in the mid 80s and our diving conditions are legendary. You must be a certified Open Water Diver or equivalent to attend.

We have rental cameras available if you do not own one. If you do not yet own a Digital Underwater SLR camera package we can recommend one of our camera/strobe packages for you to purchase. We are a Factory Authorized Ikelite Dealer and we can assist you in finding an Ikelite underwater housing and strobe setup for most digital cameras.

Note: Successful completion of the first day of the course qualifies participants to attain the PADI and/or NAUI Digital Underwater Photographer Certification if you so desire and do not already have this certification. The only additional cost for this certification is the PADI and/or NAUI certification fee of $30/card.
